Revolution Essay Example

American Revolution and Native Peoples The American Revolutionary War (1775â€1783), battled between the Kingdom of Great Britain and the thirteen United Colonies, was the summit of the political American Revolution. The settlers battled for its political opportunity and assumed responsibility for each province, driven out most illustrious authorities in 1775, and announced as another country, the United States of America, in 1776. In 1778 the greater part of the European Nations had joined against Britain. Local Americans battled for both British and American sides. After American’s triumph at Saratoga in 1777, France, with Spain and the Netherlands as its partners, joined the war against Britain. French maritime triumph in the Chesapeake prompted the acquiescence of a British armed force at Yorktown in 1781. The Treaty of Paris in 1783 finished the war and perceived the power of the United States (wikipedia n.pag 2007). This was not a conflict for the most part about financial matters, yet about the estimations of popularity based government. As such this was likewise a preservationist upheaval. A considerable lot of those significant in the opportunity development were generally reluctant to break the connection with Britain and thought about it as a last alternative. They likewise demanded that in contradicting the British government they were simply expressing their privileges as Englishmen and it was the British government that had first upset the ‘status quo’ by implementing illicit dealings in the provinces. The Quebec Act 1774 was the most scary, which approve the French Canadians and Indian partners to settle in the Ohio and Mississippi valleys, thus removing the advancement of the provinces toward the west. Rising harshness in the settlements prompted the First Continental Congress in 1774. The Revolutionary War began at Lexington in April 1775 and the declaration of opportunit y officially breaking the association between the provinces and Britain was marked on 4 July 1776 (Mervin n.pag.) The Royal Proclamation of 1763 which attempted to check frontier augmentation past the Appalachian Mountains, and had offended numerous American settlers. The Native Indians comprehended that the Revolution was a battle for Indian land and for freedom. A couple of Indian ethnic gatherings did battle against American pioneers and on the other hand, a few Indians from the mission town at Stockbridge in western Massachusetts, upheld American homesteaders. They got enlisted as minutemen even before the event of the battling, joined Washingtons military, and served in New York, New Jersey, and Canada. The Revolution partitioned the Iroquois association. Mohawks guided by Joseph Brant adhered on to their old steadfastness to the British, and at last the greater part Cayugas, Onondagas, and Senecas joined with them. Anyway Oneidas and Tuscaroras bolstered the Americans. The Revolution appeared to be a common war for the Iroquois, since Oneidas battled with Senecas at the Battle of Oriskany in 1777. Iroquois set back were expanded in 1779 when General John Sullivan told an American armed force through their country, setting fire on forty towns and demolishing all harvests. A portion of the Native Americans, for example, Guyashuta of the Senecas, Cornstalk of the Shawnees, and White Eyes of the Delawares of Ohio nation made a decent attempt to move an impartial course in the start of the war. By the Treaty of Fort Pitt in 1778, Delawares and Americans guaranteed enduring harmony and kinship. Anyway after Americans murdered White Eyes and Cornstalk, and slaughter regular people Moravian Delawares at the mission town of Gnadenhutten, Ohio Native Indians made basic explanation with the British. They won and kept on restricting American development for a considerable length of time after the Revolution. In the year 1783, according to the particulars of the Peace of Paris, without giving any significance to its Indian partners, Britain returned United States its whole locale. The United States kept on spreading out westbound, increasing Indian grounds through bargain and forcibly. The Native Stockbridges and Oneidas who had helped the Americans lost their territories and furthermore Senecas and Shawnees who had fought against the Americans. Actually, Indians battled in the Revolution for Indian freedom and Indian local soil, not for the British realm. In any case, dominant part of Americans accepted that Indians had supported British realm. The country imagined in opportunity requires, feel no lament about seize and drive out the individuals who had combat against its introduction to the world (Calloway n.pag 2003). Medical Science for Pathogenesis and Diagnosis- myassignmenthelp

Question: Examine about theMedical Science for Pathogenesis and Diagnosis. Answer: History In the given contextual analysis, 52-year-old Emma Smith had a continuous beginning of stomach torment and had been regurgitating discontinuously and incapable to endure oral liquids. She can't confine the torment and it began in the correct lower quadrant in here and there structure. The mid-region is inflexible, delicate on palpation and seemed flushed, diaphoretic. On addressing, her agony scored 9/10 on torment scale, be that as it may, there was no torment during her last pee. She was somewhat disturbed, heaving and skin showed up warm to contact. Her essential signs included heartbeat 120 and thready, low circulatory strain 90/60, sinus tachycardia with steady torment in the stomach. The above condition might be an instance of a ruptured appendix as the agony started in the correct lower quadrant of the stomach (Shogilev et al., 2014). Temporary conclusion Intense an infected appendix might be a crisis condition that requires prompt consideration and the executives of the condition. The temporary finding is the transitory analysis that should be possible with the best data accessible in that circumstance which further requires affirmation. The crisis care administration would assist with giving the consideration during Emmas move from home to medical clinic. In differential determination, an infected appendix can be dubious for finding until the run of the mill indications are searched for. The primary thought on a need premise is torment the board and checking of indispensable signs like stomach agony, ultrasound or CT filter) oxygen immersion levels, circulatory strain, beat rate and temperature (Ehrman Favot, 2017). Etiology The fundamental driver of a ruptured appendix is expected to appendiceal lumen that outcomes in block chiefly by lymphoid hyperplasia brought about by some outside body or worms. There is aggravation of informative supplement and this prompts duplication of microorganisms inside the organ and discharge development. The block may prompt bacterial excess, distension, ischemia and stomach aggravation. There is hindering of informative supplement by stool or remote body that causes intense or incessant agony. Briefly, there are two primary driver of a ruptured appendix: stomach contamination that may have moved to informative supplement or a hard stool piece might be caught in reference section and microbes present in it might have tainted the index (Bowen, 2015). The study of disease transmission A ruptured appendix is one of the most well-known intense stomach crisis cases; be that as it may, the occurrence is low in the populace with 6.7% females and 8.6% guys. The lifetime chance is 12% among guys and 23% among females. This condition happens in individuals matured early adolescents and late 40s. This demonstrates male to female prevalence and is a worldwide infection. The commonness is balanced out in most Western nations and recommends that the rate is increasing quickly. Among these, Europe has the most elevated frequency and rate in Australia is tantamount to Western Europe. The yearly death rate in Australia because of a ruptured appendix has diminished by 42.7%, in any case, the rate is heightening that is turning into a significant worldwide medical problem and weight of malady (Bhangu et al., 2015). Pathophysiology As the signs and side effects of Emmas wellbeing conditions, demonstrates to the chance of an infected appendix, the pathophysiology of reference section will be talked about. Because of the deterrent in the lumen, it turns into a shut circle and turns out to be totally loaded up with mucus. This condition prompts intramural and intraluminal weight and distension. Movement of such condition drives the augmentation of occupant microscopic organisms in the supplement. A portion of the inhabitant microbes of informative supplement are Bacteroids fragilis and Escherichia coli(Flum, 2015).The explanation of Emmas spewing and excruciating agony is the distension of the lumen of the reference section. This condition causes reflex anorexia, regurgitating, mellow fever, sickness and serious stomach torment. The weight of the lumen of index continues expanding and surpasses the venous weight prompting the apoplexy of little venules and various vessels. Be that as it may, in this condition also the arterioles stays open and this makes the addendum blocked and engorged. Moreover, irritation in this area prompts serosa of the index and prompts parietal peritoneum, prompting the correct lower quadrant torment in the mid-region district. At last, the occupant microscopic organisms begin framing discharge that break out of the perishing dividers makes the infection progressively entangled (Wolfe Hanneman, 2013). Appraisal There are a few apparatus to evaluate an infected appendix in patients. As the patient may be, griping about the stable cut off agony in her lower right mid-region and her mid-region is inflexible, swollen and delicate. Subsequently, ultrasonography will be utilized to analyze the reason for tormenting. Ultrasonography is a simple and powerful path for essential finding of the agony and if the procedure gives negative outcome, CT sweep can be utilized to analyze further. Appendixdoes notappear by and large in the ultrasonography strategy. Be that as it may, after the reference section gets swollen and begin tormenting, the ultrasonography test gives an away from of 7 to 9 mm of swollen structure in the lower right quadrant of mid-region. Subsequently, it is a powerful device to analyze informative supplement, if the patient is experiencing the ailment (Kim et al., 2012). To identify the chance of a ruptured appendix, urinary 5-HIAA tests can be performed. The extent of HIAA in bloodincreases with the beginning of the malady and during the putrefaction of the reference section turns out to be low in sum. Subsequently, from the urinary 5-HIAA test, the degree of HIAA in Emmas body can be identified and a more clear image of malady can be achieved(Kim et al., 2012). Treatment Early treatment of Emma ought to incorporate medications to deal with her torment and to bring down the wellbeing outcomes due the manifestations. In the chance of reference section, the patient ought to be managed to crystalloid treatment. Emma is giving the indications of parchedness and she can't take any liquid inside her body thus crystalloid treatment will be viable to manage her indications of lack of hydration and septicemia (Lacher et al., 2012). Sheshould be given analgesics (parenteral and antiemetic) to comfort her stomach torment. This will assist with quieting her condition and her pulse will improve (Lacher et al., 2012). Transport Transport of the patient to the medical clinic was minimal troublesome as she was experiencing serious torment. A group of snappy activity group went with the ward young men in the emergency vehicle to move the patient from home to medical clinic and they do their temporary consideration methods to quiet the patient in the rescue vehicle. Education in the 21st Century Essay Example For Students

Training in the 21st Century Essay Instructors who are worried about this ignored part of the educational program talk about the requirement for a prospects measurement inside the educational plan and the requirement for understudies to build up a fates point of view, I. e. the capacity to think all the more basically and innovatively about what's to come. Ward (2008:120) Education has been around for a considerable length of time it has created from primary schools to remarkable comprehensive schools for what's to come. So practically what would we be able to hope to find in our schools in the 21st century? For me custom curriculum is a huge piece of our future working inside this condition and making our schools progressively comprehensive. This to incorporate creation a general public all the more tolerating to change can this is conceivable? Scott McLeod, in his blog,Dangerously Irrelevant, recently helped us to remember a line fromMission Impossible, and we should apply that challenge to the entirety of society. Your task, should you decide to acknowledge it is to take training really into the 21st century. It isn't sufficient to state that we are as of now living there. In fact it is the 21st century, yet our schools are not there, and our test presently is to reexamine schools for the 21st century for our kids, our understudies and the government assistance of our reality. Making such a change in perspective isn't simple. All things considered, when any of us considers instruction, we for the most part consider what we knew as school the manner in which it has consistently been. That is the way guardians, approach creators, government officials and numerous understudies consider school. Be that as it may, we need to make the change in outlook to 21st century training. www. 21stcenturyschools. com. This statement established a gigantic connection with me when I read it. I accept we currently have the capacities to make our schools and instruction framework something to be glad for. With the headways in innovation as of now the homeroom is the creation of a redemption of splendid training. PCs with their interactive media abilities are constantly being incorporated into the study hall educational plan. Utilizing PCs and the World Wide Web, instructors are making new learning situations. Inside these situations, instructors become facilitators and understudies become constructors of information. Severe and Legacy (2008:29) Though this title is requesting that I depict what I might want in the instruction framework in the 21st century I need to state that for me regardless of how much innovation is accessible I would even now like that individual bit of instructor understudy bond. We could have all the quickest innovation PCs video conferencing however for me the individual experience of a person has stood the trial of time. So where to start my vision for 21st instruction would incorporate the standard training framework been completely repudiated and placed in to rehearse the extraordinary needs training framework. In this manner been progressively adaptable training framework that depends on the individual adapting needs of the student. Maier and Warren recommend a totally different view to my own. The changing model of learning and instructing. Accordingly we are seeing a move in learning and showing models over the training segment that decreases the guide understudy bond and builds understudy autonomy and between reliance between each other. Maier and Warren (2000:24) I might likewise want to see a more straightforward methodology in giving learning materials to assist individuals with understanding that incapacity isn't a prevention yet something to celebrate been extraordinary. If this somehow happened to be executed inside my training framework I accept that we would find that society would turn out to be all the more tolerating. I would not have a social class separation and cash would be dispensed on the guideline of consideration and how well the school advanced individual learning styles. Instructors have said for quite a while that schools are as yet living in obscurity ages and should be raised to speed. Toffler (1974) was one of the main journalists to contend that the educational plan should have been progressively future orientated however progress has been delayed in building up this component of the educational program (Hicks,2006). .uadb19ec2b09578f26b144056dda2113f , .uadb19ec2b09578f26b144056dda2113f .postImageUrl , .uadb19ec2b09578f26b144056dda2113f .focused content territory { min-stature: 80px; position: relative; } .uadb19ec2b09578f26b144056dda2113f , .uadb19ec2b09578f26b144056dda2113f:hover , .uadb19ec2b09578f26b144056dda2113f:visited , .uadb19ec2b09578f26b144056dda2113f:active { border:0!important; } .uadb19ec2b09578f26b144056dda2113f .clearfix:after { content: ; show: table; clear: both; } .uadb19ec2b09578f26b144056dda2113f { show: square; change: foundation shading 250ms; webkit-progress: foundation shading 250ms; width: 100%; haziness: 1; change: darkness 250ms; webkit-progress: murkiness 250ms; foundation shading: #95A5A6; } .uadb19ec2b09578f26b144056dda2113f:active , .uadb19ec2b09578f26b144056dda2113f:hover { mistiness: 1; change: obscurity 250ms; webkit-change: mistiness 250ms; foundation shading: #2C3E50; } .uadb19ec2b09578f26b144056dda2113f .focused content region { width: 100%; position: relati ve; } .uadb19ec2b09578f26b144056dda2113f .ctaText { fringe base: 0 strong #fff; shading: #2980B9; text dimension: 16px; textual style weight: intense; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; content improvement: underline; } .uadb19ec2b09578f26b144056dda2113f .postTitle { shading: #FFFFFF; text dimension: 16px; textual style weight: 600; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; width: 100%; } .uadb19ec2b09578f26b144056dda2113f .ctaButton { foundation shading: #7F8C8D!important; shading: #2980B9; outskirt: none; outskirt sweep: 3px; box-shadow: none; text dimension: 14px; text style weight: striking; line-tallness: 26px; moz-outskirt span: 3px; content adjust: focus; content design: none; content shadow: none; width: 80px; min-stature: 80px; foundation: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/modules/intelly-related-posts/resources/pictures/straightforward arrow.png)no-rehash; position: supreme; right: 0; top: 0; } .uadb19ec2b09578f26b144056dda2113f:hover .ctaButton { foundation shading: #34495E!important; } .uadb19 ec2b09578f26b144056dda2113f .focused content { show: table; stature: 80px; cushioning left: 18px; top: 0; } .uadb19ec2b09578f26b144056dda2113f-content { show: table-cell; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; cushioning right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-adjust: center; width: 100%; } .uadb19ec2b09578f26b144056dda2113f:after { content: ; show: square; clear: both; } READ: Threat Intelligence EssayNevertheless, significant reviews of contempary work in schools can be discovered, for example, that by Gidley et al. (2004). Ward (2008:120) So with regards to what teachers are stating the educational program should be brought quickly in to the 21st century. Individual PCs would be given to every understudy and between dynamic white sheets would be accessible in each room. I might likewise want to actualize an educator/parent centered gathering which causes guardians to accomplish more and help their youngsters at home. Inside this job a potential video journal can be utilized to screen any adv ance or issues. Educators would be given the preparation to both interface with students on face esteem and that of a virtual learning condition. The assets accessible to every understudy would be as per the following workstations, utilization of entomb dynamic whiteboard; I units virtual learning suites and projects custom fitted to singular needs, for example, maths, English and science. I would likewise execute a free learning educational program with a selection of hands on ventures to look over. These been ict, working in a talented situation and learning fundamental abilities. Assets for use inside the school would be a multipurpose constructed wellness and sports field, bury dynamic white load up, gifted workshops, pool, tangible rooms and sight and sound rooms. I would likewise make accessible free youngster care places for kids 0f 6months above depending on the prerequisite that more youthful guardians come back to training and more seasoned guardians have the decision to proceed with work or come back to instruction. In view of this I accept the instruction framework will at that point give the important apparatuses to individuals to have a beneficial outcome on society. To help encourage the running expenses of these offices I would utilize a portion of the assets to general society and different associations. By making accessible these assets to the outside world I am accordingly creating a pay which could then be utilized on giving assets to extracurricular exercises. Along these lines been things, for example, private excursions, instructive visits and outings to the recreation center. This thus would raise the a portion of the budgetary commitments that must be made by guardians for these occasions to occur. So to close my 21st training article I might want to see these progressions happen and make our schools an all the more tolerating and comprehensive spot to be. In the event that these measures could be executed in the public eye and we could begin once more. Would we be able to conceivably make future training framework that not exclusively is exceptional however plays hooky isolate? Additionally might we be able to create instruction framework that sees the kid as an individual not only a measurement? So could my thoughts and perspectives be the new 21st century instruction suspicious I know yet on the off chance that we challenge the perspectives on others enough this might one be able to day become reality.

Ability to organize and Prioritize workloads and Judgement †Free Samp

Question: How to Adjust Job Place. Answer: Ability to organize and Prioritize workloads in order to meet deadlines and Judgement Meeting to projects simultaneously within the same deadline is not an easy task. It is not possible for an employee to make Ready decisions unless he poses good management qualities. Time management is the essential factor in this situation and to meet both the projects within the deadline I have to manage the time. As my colleague is not able to manage his project, I have been assigned to his part, and it is my responsibility to meet them within time. I can either take help of my subordinates to split the job and meet the criterion according to the capabilities they possess. Rather, I can also give extra labour to finish both the tasks on time. I need to a lot of specific time for both the projects accordingly and then only I can finish it on time (Anderson et al. 2002). In order to address the situation of my colleague, I would rather explain his condition of health awesome personal reasons due to which he was not able to complete his part of the project. Ability to work in a team and Thoroughness On the part of the realisation, that my supervisor had witnessed high rate of error when my team members were overloaded with the responsibility of both the projects, I have to convince him to ensure better quality of work from my teams side and on the other hand I have to motivate my team members to co-operate with each other and ensure that the quality of work they are producing for both the task is good enough (Hepworth et al. 2016). Reliability If the situation is not in my favour, I have to think and prepare myself before hand to ensure that my supervisors have provided me with every document regarding the project. Before he leaves, I have to check whether every file is provided to me or not. However, in the situation I have to call him up I have to contact with him in any means to ask for the permission for having access to this computer. Otherwise, I would not be possible to finish the project. Before this, I have to convince him and make you feel that I am reliable enough so that he can share his personal materials regarding official tasks with me. If in case my supervisor does not agree to share his personal data for accessing the files, I have to wait until he returns and then only I can perform the job. Unless he gives me the access, it would not be possible for me and neither my responsibility for the undone job (Murray and Mandell, 2006). Effective interpersonal relationships While describing a situation of my corporate family, I had a work experience with one of my colleagues. The documents and files of the project that was assigned came out to be the same for both of us. It was not a good situation for me neither for him to deal with the overlapping and coincidental situation. Due to having enough skills and same thinking procedure, our work resulted in more or less the same output. It was hard to convince our supervisor to the thought that one of us is guilty and have adopted unfair means. To handle out the situation, we both sit together and rearrange the files of our projects to make a new one. Finally, the matter was solved (Noe et al. 2006) For any for the situation like this, I would discuss with my colleagues whether there is any same thing in our job or not and then consult a rough idea so that our work materials do not collide. It depends on the interpersonal skills that I possess whether or not I can manage the conflict with my colleague or any official work. I have to be sure with my interpersonal skills and effective relationship management that will help me face any conflicting situation (Nonis et al. 2005). Ability to deal with difficult situations The first and the foremost important thing that I am going to ask for permission from my supervisor to provide me time to complete my backlogged tasks. In order to meet agent request and pending works, I have to manage my time. Managing time is an essential factor to cope up with all urgent situations and make a scheduled profile to aim at completing any new projects. While there will be several requests that are urgent, I will meet them first. Considering the backlog works, I have to put in more effort with my schedule or rather I have to over work for finishing due tasks (White et al. 2003). Jail Based Substance Abuse Program Essays - Penology,

Jail Based Substance Abuse Program JAIL BASED SUBSTANCE ABUSE TREATMENT PROGRAM Substance abuse and addiction have changed the nature of America's prison population. Alcohol, drug abusers, addicts, and those who sell illegal drugs dominate state, federal prisons and local jails. Crime and alcohol and drug abuse go hand in hand. Much of the growth in America's inmate population is due to incarceration of drug law violators. With appropriate treatment for substance abuse and addiction, rehabilitation is possible for many of today's prisoners. Once they leave prison they also need continuing aftercare, education and job training. Without treatment and training, most will commit more crimes, get arrested and go back to prison. The choice is ours as well as theirs. Having a group counseling program consisting of 8 to 10 members and one or more trained Chemical Dependency Counselors would be beneficial. The purpose of the group is to provide a safe as well as a challenging place in which to work on personal and interpersonal concerns. Members can discuss their perception of each other and receive feedback on how others perceive them. Establishing trust allows group members to talk openly and honestly. Groups offer opportunity to experiment with different ways of communicating with others and a safe place to try new behaviors. They are able to give support and understanding, offer suggestions, or gently confront the person. Counselor and group members work together to establish trust and commitment to the group. Those who benefit most are usually those who take an active part in the process and who allow themselves to give and receive honest, helpful feedback. The following is information that I obtained from Lt. Kevin Peters at California Institute for Men. In 1980 the State of California had 12 prisons with 32,000 inmates. Today California has 33 prisons with 144,00 inmates. California Institution for Men (CIM) houses 6,500 of these inmates. Over 90% of the inmates at CIM are being incarcerated due to related alcohol and drug crimes. The average sentence is 41.4 months with inmates serving only 21.3 months. One inmate costs taxpayers approximately $232,291.00 for their 21.3 month incarceration, $150,000 for arrest and conviction, another $45,000 for additional bed and $21,470 for housing per year. CIM says 59% to 69% of the inmates are repeat offenders and have served time before. CIM feels it is just a place to house inmates and that there is no structure for rehabilitation. It is not their job to rehabilitate. CIM also states that the inmates have access to programs, such as AA, NA and Control of Substance Abuse for Mental Health. CIM feels that if an inmate wants to attend a program, it is available. It is not mandatory for them to attend and they cannot force an inmate to do so. The desire must be there for the inmate. Most inmates do not attend these programs since they are not mandatory. Most of the inmates dropped out of school due to substance abuse, the major contributing factor regarding their lack of interest in education. Additionally, many inmates come from poverty backgrounds. Why do we continue to release prisoners back to the community still using and still dealing, to commit further crimes and threaten our well-being and that of our children without treating the problem for which they went to prison? I feel that prisons would be a good place to develop the rehabilitation of offenders with substance abuse. The prison system needs to take on a mandatory substance abuse treatment program for all inmates incarcerated due to crimes related to drug use. Continuing to fund and build more prisons for housing offenders of drug abuse are a waste of taxpayers' money. Our prisons are full and the majority of inmates get early releases due to the problem of overcrowding, only to go out and commit more crimes. Drug addiction is a chronic disease. We treat people who have cancer, heart problems or any other disease. Although, the addicts have committed a crime, it doesn't change the fact that they have a disease, we must also treat those who have the disease of addiction. Looking over the different therapeutic community drug abuse treatment in prisons throughout the country, we may ask, why haven't all prisons adopted a program to treat inmates with an addiction on a mandatory basis? We must target these institutions because they house the parents of children and their child's future. If the parents are setting the example that drugs are okay and are doing time and repeated time, then what kind of future is in

Alferis words Essay Example

Alferis words Essay Example Alferis words Paper Alferis words Paper Eddie feels he is forced to ring the immigration bureau and all this because of jealousy. His jealousy built up as Catherine became more independent and mature. He realized she was slipping away from his grasp and dislikes it.Eddies own words were,  You can quicker get back a million dollars that was stole than a word you gave away.  Eddie betrayed his own beliefs, and lost the respect of the whole community and his honor because of jealousy Eddie, who ignored Alferis words of warning, You wont have a friend in the world, Eddie! Even those who understand will turn against you,  And all this because of the protectiveness and jealousy he didnt want to watch Catherine marrying.  Alfieri is one of the characters that is aware of Eddies motives behind his actions. Eddie visits Alfieri twice during the play once at the end of act one when Eddie is beginning to see that Catherine is in love with Rodolpho and Eddies jealousy is beginning to climax and also at the beginning of act two when Eddies has had enough and his heart tells him to do the wrong thing. Eddie you mean to tell me that theres no law that a guy which he aint right can go to work and marry a girl and ?  Eddie is speaking to Alfieri and you see that Eddies jealousy is greater than ever. Hes telling Alfieri that Rodolpho aint right implying that hes gay. Eddie is trying to find anything that will be able to stop the marriage between his Catherine and Rodolpho.  Alfieri is aware of why Eddie is visiting him. Alfieri sees that his love for his niece is greater than his love for his wife and Eddies jealousy for Rodolpho has forced Eddie to visit Alfieri to find a law that would stop the marriage. Alfieri But, Eddie, shes a woman now  Eddie Hes stealing from me!  Alfieri She wants to get married, Eddie. She cant marry you, can she?  Alfieri sees that Eddie looks at Catherine as more than just a niece. Eddie says Hes stealing from me implying that Catherine is his but Alfieri then says that  she cant marry you, can she so here you know that Alfieri is aware of Eddies love for his niece and he sees that sooner or later Eddie was going to do something very stupid because of his love and jealousy towards Catherine and Rodolphos relationship.  In Eddies second visit to Alfieri Eddie tries to dig deeper to find something that would stop the marriage. Alfieris last words to Eddie were. Alfieri When the law is wrong its because its unnatural, but in this case it is natural and a river will drown you if you buck it now. Let her go. And bless her.Somebody had to come for her Eddie sooner or later. You wont have a friend in the world, Eddie ! Even those who understand will turn against you, even the ones who feel the same will despite you!  Alfieri sees what Eddie is going to resort too and by saying you wont have a friend in the world hes trying to worn him off ringing the immigration bureau but Eddies love for his niece tells him to do the wrong thing. Beatrice was also one of the characters that were aware of his true feelings behind his motives but she gave the impression of being scared to say anything. Beatrice is seen as a timid person and wouldnt confront Eddie as he dominates her decisions and in a way scares her. Beatrice leaves the situation to begin with but as Eddie persists to be overprotective and begins interfering with Catherine and Rodolphos relationship she tries to make Catherine aware of Eddies motives behind his actions. We see a long duologue between Eddie and Beatrice that makes us realize that Beatrice is aware of Eddies motives when Eddie becomes agitated when Catherine is out,  When he aint working. He aint supposed to go advertising himself.  We know Catherine and Rodolpo have been dating for two weeks and are at the pictures when the scene opens. It is clear Eddies concern has grown; he pretends he is worried for Rodolphos safety, although it is obvious he is only becoming agitated at the thought of them being together out of his sight. Beatrice senses his distrust and jealousy,  (Smiling) Ah, go on, youre just jealous.  However, she keeps her feelings safe by presenting her thoughts almost as a joke and ignoring the fact she sees that Eddie loves Catherine really.  She trys to make Catherine aware of his feelings for her but Catherine is naà ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½ve and disillusioned by what Beatrice is trying to tell her.  But if you act like a baby hell b treatin you like a baby. Like when he comes home sometimes you throw yourself at him like when you was twelve years old  Beatrice is trying to tell Catherine that shes acting flirtatious round him and shes doing the wrong thing seen as though shes nearly a grown woman. Beatrice Sit down honey, I wanna tell you something. Here sit down. Was there ever any fella he liked for you? There wasnt was there?  Catherine But he says Rodolpho just after his papers  Beatrice Hell say anything. What does he care what he says? If it was a prince came here for you it would be no different. You know that dont you  Beatrice is subtlety trying to tell her that Eddie doesnt want to loose her and his jealousy wont let her go. Also by saying if it was a prince that came here for you it would be no different shes trying to tell Catherine that he has an attraction for her and that there will never be a man good enough for his Catherine.  Catherine is Eddie Madonna meaning he worships her and loves her. In his eyes he cant let her go but Catherine cant understand why.  Eddies jealousy then has a detrimental effect on Beatrice and Eddies relationship.  Eddies love for his niece Catherine interferes with their relationship. Beatrice feels as though she is second best to her own niece. Eddies jealousy has taken over their marriage. When am I going to be a wife again?  I aint been feeling good. They bother me since they came  In her desperate search to be accepted she even blames herself. From the start we saw how Eddie was in charge of the relationship, but now Beatrice is angered by his lack of attention  Eddie I want you to cut it out, right now, you hear me.  In Beatrices frustration she has stood up to him. The blatant accusing only frustrates and complicates Eddies thoughts, and it becomes clear their relationship is starting to break up. This is just from Eddies anger and jealousy toward Catherine and Rodolpho, not only is his marriage breaking apart but his relationship with Catherine is too. Eddie uses the excuse to cover up the fact he has more love for Catherine than Beatrice and Beatrice feels as though its pushing them further apart and is very fed up of not being loved because of Eddies jealousy.  Irony is a very important part to the play A View from the Bridge and also makes Eddies jealousy noticeable.  When Eddie warns Catherine and Beatrice that they must never discuss the submarine it is a strong example of prophetic irony because it foretells how Eddie will make his major error in judgment when he betrays Marco and Rodolpho along with the Lipari Cousins. Eddies humiliated and publicly accused by Marco. Just remember kid you can quicker get back a million dollars that was stole than a word you gave away  This is the warning Eddie gave to Beatrice and Catherine telling them not to mention anything about Rodolpho and Marco to anyone but in the end it was Eddie who went against his own words.  Alfieri was another person who also warned Eddie from doing the wrong thing  you wont have a friend in the world Eddie  But Eddie still doesnt listen to his warning and in the end turns into tragedy in Eddies death. In a view from the bridge Eddie realizes when its too late and hes dying that Beatrice love him and he loves Beatrice. He realizes that it was impossible to keep Catherine as he had tried and it was inevitable that one day he would have to let her go.  Eddies secret desire for Catherine is also incorporated in his self interest because all he could think of was himself and he didnt look at how happy Catherine and Rodolpho were, all he cared about was jealousy an trying to break them up by phoning the immigration bureau but all this caused was Catherine and himself to grow apart and for Catherine to finally see what type of a man he really was.  Eddie jealousy leads to the huge tragedy at the end. Instead of putting his feelings aside for Catherine he left them grow until his outburst of jealousy turned into tragedy and in the end he realizes what a terrible mistake he has made.

Romantics and Transcendentalists Research Paper

Romantics and Transcendentalists - Research Paper Example According to Emersion Waldo’s Nature (1836), â€Å"the movement of Transcendentalist was a vast and diverse phenomenon where by the representatives, in many voices, addressed themselves from various perspectives to significant concerns agitating thought in the decades that preceded the Civil War and the New England life†. The author used his characters and themes to inform the New England transcendentalism. In commenting against the values and tenets of the Age of Enlightenment, the authors exemplify commitment to the idealism of philosophy. This, in the view of diversity, may however seem hazardous to claim the values and tenets of the Age of Enlightenment as a central argument to the Transcendentalist movement. The authors also comment against the values and tenets of the Age of Enlightenment using their themes, that man and nature is one, and that God and nature need to coexist, and that when a man simplifies his life and lives with nature as one, he would be peacefu l with himself and the world. This is a much more view of nature in practice. All these aspects and voices of Romanticism from the authors contribute to the development of a vigorous thought nationally. The impulse of Romanticism and Transcendentalism played a primary role in the mid 19th century. Through the themes and characters in the works of these Romanticism and Transcendentalist authors, they have vastly commented against the values and tenets of the Age of Enlightenmen

Business enterprise proposition Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Business enterprise proposition - Essay Example The target customers of the business are young individuals who lie within the age group of 17 to 35 years who are interested in healthy living and falls in middle and upper middle class. The shop will be facing direct competition from Bodychef and indirect competition from Marks and Spencer, Sainsbury and Waitrose. The business requires an initial investment of ?60,000. So finance required by the organization is ?90,000. The company has its competitive advantage as portioning, pricing and delivery. 2. Vision, aims and objectives Vision The business plan looks towards starting a private limited company with the name â€Å"Body and Balance† and establish itself as one of the leading companies in the healthy food industry. A private limited company signifies an organization who can sell their shares privately within a group of friends or family. Private limited company has the word â€Å"Limited† in their name (Johnson and Aldhamland, n.d.; Anon., 2008). The main advantage s that the private limited company enjoys are as follows: They can raise large amount of capital. Liability is limited. Ownership is transferable. They have the flexibility to decide on the proportion of dividends and salary to be paid as compared to the sole traders whose basic accounts are subjected to tax at fixed rate. On the other hand, the private limited companies are also seen to suffer certain disadvantages like they take more time and cost to set up. At the same time the accounts are also complicated (Shakespeare, 2011). Reason for doing this business The main reason for opening a shop in this particular sector is because research has proved that as time is passing more and more people are becoming health conscious and they are getting inclined towards healthy food. Thus this business looks for tapping a hyper growth experienced by the health food industry. Aim The business aims towards attaining 5% market share in one year. Here market share is defined as the share of the market occupied by ‘Body and Balance’ out of the total potential market. The total potential is indicated as the sum total of the annual sales of all the companies operating in the market including the firm itself and the potential customers who have not made the purchase yet (Luther, 2001). Objectives The business will be starting with a small shop that will be strategically located near the local gyms in the Oxford Street area. The future plans of the business have been shown below: 1-5 years: Increase the number of branches to five. 5-10 years: Expanding the business by entering into other markets and developing new products. 10-15 years: Opening new branch at New York. 3. Business description, market environment and competitive advantage Business Description The company ‘Body and Balance’ provides healthy food to their customers that will last for 1 to 3 days. The company will also provide planning services free of cost. They have their own nutritionis t to provide innovative and up-to-date meal plan to the customers. On the requirement of the customers the company also provides supplements like nutrition and vitamins. Special orders can be taken as per the flavour of the customers. Market Environment The business will be operating in the health food market, which in UK is showing a growth of ?2 billion annually (Durisin, 2013). The company will be opening its shop in the close vicinity of the gyms. So they are mainly aiming

How I Learned to Drive Analysis Essay Example for Free

How I Learned to Drive Analysis Essay In Paula Vogel’s â€Å"How I Learned to Drive†, we follow our protagonist nicknamed â€Å"Lil Bit† on a gut wrenching, and downright disturbing journey through her adolescence, told as a series of narrations, monologues, and flashbacks with the occasional interjection of a PSA like voice over. The play recounts the physical and emotional abuse Lil Bit encountered from the ages of eleven to eighteen at the hands of her uncle Peck, while he teaches her to drive. The main flaw I saw in Lil Bit was that she is too smart for her own good. You see this characteristic throughout the play as she manipulates Peck. For example, it was most obvious for me when their roles of adult and child are reversed, and Peck is explaining to Lil Bit what a good boy he has been for not drinking. Knowing how much Peck lusts after her she offers him a reward for his good behavior in the form of undoing her bra. Another great example is when prior to her and peck going on a road trip and Lil Bit’s mother indicates that she has a sense of what Peck has on his mind, she responds by saying â€Å"I can take care of myself. And I can certainly handle uncle Peck.† At this point in the story she is only eleven. It’s hard to imagine a child of that age so grown up emotionally. Overall, most of the characters had likeable qualities, with the exception of the grandmother. I didn’t really like the way she meddled in the Parenting of Lil Bit. I liked â€Å"Big Papa† the best. He’s a crabby old timer who speaks anything that comes into his head with reckless abandon. It brought me some levity in an otherwise melancholy play. The climax of the play occurs on Lil Bit’s eighteenth birthday. She and Peck are in a hotel room, and she’s been ignoring peck for some time leading up to this meeting as he’s been sending her cards counting down to her birthday. Lil Bit is obviously conflicted about their relationship now that she has gotten older, but Peck is looking forward to a time when it’s not illegal for them to be together. This is creepy enough on its own, but when Peck drops the marriage bomb, the creep factor skyrockets. I was honestly disgusted at the idea of a man leaving his wife to be with his niece whom he  has known since birth, blood related or not. Prior to the climax, one major event occurs and that is in the monologue that Aunt Mary delivers indicating that she knows what’s going on between Peck and Lil bit. The words used during this monologue, indicate to me a couple of key points about this character. First of all she is very intelligent. Her thoughts are well put together and the words she uses indicates to me that she has some sort of education. She is also very intuitive, she picks up on the subtle, non-verbal signals that peck gives off when he’s got something on his mind and presumably when he’s around Lil Bit. Also, the words used by Lil Bit in her different flashbacks have a direct correlation to her age. It’s obvious as you read them, that during the later ones she is forming more complex thoughts and emotions, which is indicative of growth. For the music in this play, Paula Vogel suggested period correct music spanning two generations. She mentions Motown several times, as well as Roy Orbison and the Beach Boys. Most of this music is romantic and happy with little hints of sexuality and sometimes-pedophilic references. For some weird reason the voice of the announcer in my head was played by the Moviephone guy. The car in the play was described as a Buick Riviera, but in my mind it was more like a Camaro or GTO. The main reason for this is the obvious relationship between Peck and his car. The way he describes the way the aggressive way men are taught to drive and the feeling of a cars’ response to your touch, just makes me think of those fast nimble sports cars. Taking place in the 1960’s, the costumes in my mind were bell-bottoms and flowered shirts, polyester leisure suits, and fringes all over the place. This was your typical 1960’s attire. I believe the overall theme of this play is about the effect of time on relationships. The relationship between Peck and Lil Bit starts out strong, for her and fragile for him. She has a strong male figure giving her attention while he is nurturing a relationship that he knows is illegal and  immoral. As time progresses, the roles ultimately reverse leaving Peck with much confidence in the relationship while Lil Bit comes to realize the truth about it which leads to its demise. It just goes to show that time will always change relationships, jus not always in the way you imagined.

The History of the Psychedelic Movement :: Psychedelic Movement Buddhism Religion Essays

The History of the Psychedelic Movement In an attempt to synthesize my own personal academic area of interest, that is: the history of the psychedelic movement in twentieth century America, with the content of the Asian Religions course, I have elected to study the relationship between the influx of Buddhist philosophy and the psychedelic counter-culture movement of the 1960’s and 1970’s. The subject, although highly specific, has nonetheless generated intellectual interest substantial enough to warrant a sub-field of study, in terms of Buddhist/American History examination. This paper will focus on the thought of the main harbingers of this movement, specifically Aldous Huxley, Alan Watts, and Dr. Timothy Leary. This study will also examine the corruptions of classical Buddhist philosophy wrought by these intellectuals concerned with integrating the psychedelic experience in an Eastern context. The connection between Buddhism and psychedelics in the American experience is a subject of contention because of t he controversial associations of chemically altered perception as compared to traditional Bodhicitta, or the mind of enlightenment. The author Emma Layman, in her book Buddhism in America, asserts: â€Å"Of all the Buddhist groups in America, those focusing on meditation have been most attractive to young people from the drug scene, and it is these groups that have taken the strongest stand against drug use. The psychological literature as well as the literature on Zen abounds in descriptions of the altered states of consciousness experienced under the influence of LSD-25 and other hallucinogenic drugs. Descriptions of these drug-induced states often compare them with the experience of satori or enlightenment which may result from Buddhist meditation. Frequently the opinion is expressed that, under certain circumstances, the LSD experience is a satori experience. † The popularity of Buddhism in America became most pronounce in the period after World War II. It is interesting to note that the United States had just concluded the most devastating war in human history, with the first use of the atomic bomb on the Empire of Japan, yet the Japanese of style Buddhism took hold in America more than other school after the war. It could be said that the main figure head of Japanese, or more precisely, Zen Buddhism, in America was the author and intellectual Dr. D.T. Suzuki. In terms of the American expression of Buddhism, Suzuki had more influence over the interpretation of Zen philosophy than any other writer of the time.

Social Impact Analysis (Hydrogen Fuel)

The search for a renewable energy source has been a top priority to us a human race in the past decade. Many ideas have come in the form of wind, solar, and nuclear power, all having their own drawbacks. But, the one that will be focused upon in this analysis is hydrogen as a source of fuel, and the technology leading the way to making it a reality. This technology would affect everyone in one way or another if correctly used. So we must ask if this technology is beneficial to us, how it might hurt us, and whether it is worth pursuing from an ethical stance. Background:Hydrogen has already been under the micro scope for many years as an alternative fuel source to us because of its abundance and power. We have simply been lacking the technology to employ it in an efficient way. But a recent break through might speed the process up of putting such a fuel in place in our modern market. A â€Å"team of researchers from Virginia Tech has discovered a way to extract large quantities of hy drogen from any plant† [1]. The research found a method to convert large quantities of hydrogen from the most plentiful plant sugar found on earth, xylose. This method is most important because it extracts the hydrogen with little input energy and does so in an environmentally friendly manner. Hydrogen is one of the most abundant elements found on earth, yet it must be separated into its pure form, H2, before being used as a fuel. The problem is, with current methods pure hydrogen â€Å"is just too expensive and time-consuming to produce† [2]. Current methods often require more energy from other sources like natural gas or coal burning electric plants to extract the hydrogen, than the hydrogen can actually produce itself. So in turn, hydrogen fuel which has been looked at to solve pollution problems, has in the past caused just as much pollution to produce, and defeated its own purpose. That is where this new technology can completely change everything. To liberate the hy drogen, â€Å"Virginia Tech scientists separated a number of enzymes from their native microorganisms to create a customized enzyme cocktail that does not occur in nature† [1]. This enzyme cocktail releases the pure hydrogen from plant sources quickly, cheaply, and with little outside energy to do so.These enzymes yield pure hydrogen from biomaterial at much higher quantities than previously possible. The hydrogen that is produced can be directly utilized by proton exchange membrane fuel cells. Possible Advantages: This advancement in technology reveals to us a multitude of possibilities and advantages. One of the easiest advantages to see has already been stated above. Hydrogen is massively abundant on earth, is renewable, and produces no harmful emissions when used as an energy source. Its number one emission is heat and clean water! If used, hydrogen would lower our pollution output immensely, and would take us off the dependence of fossil fuels. Taking our dependence off o f oil is the number one reason why so much money has been funneled into hydrogen research. America uses â€Å"one quarter† of all the oil produced in the world, yet we only account for â€Å"4. 6% of the world population† [5]. Imagine if we were able to make all vehicles hydrogen powered and the dramatic cut this would make to our green house gas emissions. That global warming doomsday clock we’ve all been so infatuated with would slow dramatically.Hydrogen is a â€Å"very efficient fuel source† compared to â€Å"traditional sources of energy and produces more energy per pound of fuel†. In fact, hydrogen  Ã¢â‚¬Å"is three times as powerful as gasoline and similar fossil fuels† [2], so in turn less is more. Switching to hydrogen fuel would mean â€Å"that we had to depend a lot less on foreign oil sources, lessening the need for international importation of fuel† [4] . All the stated above simply tells the physical advantages of hydrog en over current fossil fuels, but, bringing about this change could have economic and social possibilities as well. This discovery could bring about the last piece to the puzzle in developing a whole new line of fuel efficient, environmentally clean cars. Honda has already produced a hydrogen fuel cell concept car they claim is â€Å"overall 64% energy efficient†. To put this into perspective in the average gasoline combustion engine â€Å"only about 20 percent of the thermal-energy content of the gasoline is converted into mechanical work†, making it 20% energy efficient [5]. This new line of cars could bring about jobs in the automotive industry and all industries that branch from it.As of right now the commercial market for hydrogen gas produced from the use of fossil fuels is at about $100 billion. A majority of this hydrogen goes into producing fertilizers and petrochemicals [1]. All it would take is an inexpensive source of green hydrogen, such as the one recently discovered, to completely change this industry. Overall hydrogen has the ability to bring about jobs and continued advancements in every market and industry touched by it. This could be just about every industry when considering how important transportation and shipping are to the economy; hydrogen would give them an inexpensive fuel for transport.Hydrogen fuel could do this all the while solving our most important problem of finding a renewable energy source. Potential Drawbacks: Even though hydrogen as a fuel seems to answer every problem we want it to; it also has setbacks. Although we have the technology now to bring us an endless supply of hydrogen fuel we do not have the storage or infrastructure capabilities for it. â€Å"Hydrogen is highly volatile. Special tanks have to be used to hold it and specially-pressurized pumps have to be used to convey it† [3].And once more, these special tanks and pumps must be outfitted to work on vehicles as well. It would be at much co st to the government and in turn the taxpayer to quickly build and put in place the pipe lines, storage tanks, filling stations, and other vices needed to use hydrogen. Most people consider it â€Å"insane to even suggest that current fuel sources be replaced when what is already in place is working so well† [2]. In its pure, usable, gas form hydrogen is very explosive and the ramifications of putting it as our main source of fuel must be weighed out.If not properly handled many people could lose their lives to it. Legislators will have to â€Å"create new processes for first responders to follow when they must handle an incident involving a fuel cell vehicle or generator. Engineers will have to design safe, reliable hydrogen delivery systems† [5]. In time hydrogen as a fuel may bring lowered costs to the consumer for transportaion fuels, power, and other chemicals, but seems that at first it will only bring higher costs. This will only make weaning us off fossil fuels more difficult.People will not buy hydrogen technology until it is competitively priced, but competitive pricing seems still quite a bit away. As of now the cost of a hydrogen fuel cell is very expensive because of its many components, some of which contain precious metals like platinum. â€Å"In order to be competitively priced (compared to gasoline-powered vehicles), fuel cell systems must cost $35 per kilowatt. Currently, the projected high-volume production price is $73 per kilowatt. † [5]. Should it be used?In the case of this technology I think a utilitarian approach is key; more specifically an act-utilitarian approach. Act-utilitarian, in such that hydrogen fuel technology should be utilized in all areas available only if this action would maximize the good in the end. In my opinion the benefits outweigh the disadvantages/dangers when applying hydrogen fuel in a universally correct manner, and would maximize the end good for all humanity. So, I feel that full investm ent into the use of hydrogen would be the correct line of action. This gives us the opportunity to act as engineers correctly under our code of ethics meeting several criteria: â€Å"using our knowledge and skill for the enhancement of human welfare and the environment†, and complying â€Å"with the principles of sustainable development  in the performance of professional duties† [6]. Of course, as with every emerging technology there are failures and drawbacks. But, when these technologies are used correctly they have the ability to completely revolutionize how we do things for the better. Sometime, as in this case, the short term drawbacks caused to a few must be over looked for more the betterment of the masses.Hydrogen fuel would answer problems that we have deemed most important for our future; green renewable energy and lowering our effect on the environment by pollution. The consequences of using hydrogen in the long run must be considered, and the temporary di sadvantages such as costs and dangers must be ignored . Not every person can be pleased right away. These minor problems can be dealt with eventually. But, in the long run the benefits will continue to grow on themselves. The development of this technology must be continued until it has become common place as much as gas and other fuels are to us now. With the problem of fossil fuels and their negative consequences out of the way, we as a human race are able to tackle our next great challenge. Essay on How Stubbornness Leads to Disaster in Sophocles...

Parents are there to protect and raise their children. It is their choice on how to do it. Many can be very nice and almost not strict enough, but others can seem stubborn and mean. Unlike strict parents, people who are truly stubborn can be much, much worse. Their inability to be wrong or not get what they want can destroy relationships and lives. This happened in Sophocles Antigone, she was doing what she felt to be right and her uncle, Creon the king of Thebes, had her killed because he did not agree with her point of view. Stubbornness can lead to bad judgments and horrible repercussions. Stubbornness is like a parasite that takes over a persons mind and body, and makes them sad, depressed, and angry. In the play almost every†¦show more content†¦Antigones sister reminds her she has no power in the law and if she is to be caught burying Polynieces she will be put to death. Being bull headed she does anyway. She was so stubborn that not even her only sister could stop her . After their argument Antigone even asks her sister if she wants to come with because Antigone thinks burying Polynieces is a respectable thing to do, she can not take a hint. And when she goes to defend herself in front of Creon she is so stubborn that she wants everyone to know that she has committed this crime for the gods and does not even defend herself but says she is guilty. This makes Creon even more mad because she knew exactly what she was doing. Not only were Creon and Antigone stubborn, other characters were also stubborn. For example Ismene, who wants to die with Antigone. She does not give up, but keeps saying, I did it†¦ I am her partner. I share the blame (29). Creon does not let her die with Antigone because he believes she is innocent and does not want to kill an innocent woman, ironically his stubborn choices kill many people close to him. Haimon also tries to sway Creon’s decision multiple times in the play and he does not give up until Antigone has already died. Over all almost every character in the play, Antigone, was stubborn, and all this led to disaster. In the end because of all of this foolishness Antigone, Haimon, and Euridice, Creons wife, die. This leaves Creon with no oneShow MoreRelatedOedipus and Chorus Leader8958 Words   |  36 PagesAntigone By Sophocles; translated by Ian Johnston Dramatis Personae (Fill in relationship information for each character listed.) Prince of Paranoia A study of Hamlets Personality Disorder

nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; When we first meet Hamlet, he is a sad, dark, loathsome figure; the loss of his father and the whoring of his mother have upset him indefinitely. Like a ticking time bomb, Hamlet’s noticeable temper reflects the storm of emotions and thoughts brewing in his head, and then like a catalyst, his meeting with the Ghost of King Hamlet brings his anger to a boil. With revenge in mind, Hamlet plans to fake his madness so that he may be free to pursue his father’s killer. Everyone, except his close friend Horatio, seems convinced that he is mad. Claudius however, fearful that someone will discover his evil deed, has also had his perceptions heightened by his guilt and he experiences chronic paranoia throughout the†¦show more content†¦Then, in hearing Gertrude’s cry for help, Polonius hollers for help, revealing his position. In all his fury and confusion, Hamlet draws his sword and stabs Polonius through the arras, killing him. In a boo klet printed by the National Institute of Mental Health, hypersensitivity is said to be a common condition of paranoia. â€Å"Because persons with paranoid personality disorder are hyperalert, they notice any slight and may take offense where none is intended. As a result, they tend to be defensive and antagonistic. When they are at fault, they cannot accept blame, not even mild criticism. Yet they are highly critical of others. Other people may say that these individuals make ‘mountains out of molehills’† (NIMH). Interestingly enough, Hamlet believed the man behind the arras was the king. â€Å"Nay I know not, is it the king?† (3, 4, 26). How could Claudius have moved from the chapel to behind an arras in Gertrude’s bedroom in shorter time than it took Hamlet? For an instant, Hamlet looses contact with reality and neglects reason, another indication of paranoia. Those suffering from paranoia can also have hallucinations and they can hear things that are not really there. Hamlets hallucinations are very clear when he sees his fathers ghost in his mother’s bedroom. He sees and hears his father’s ghost while his mother does not: Gertrude: quot;To whom to you speak this?quot; Hamlet: quot;Do you see nothing there?quot; Gertrude: quot;Nothing at all,

After she identified Newton he tried to plead his case but he was later sentenced to 13 to 40 years in prison. Newton tried to plead his innocence, but the justice system sent him straight to jail. Newton petitioned for parole on three separate occasions and he was denied. Newton was determined to prove his innocence. However the police officer claimed that the rape kit that was used to identify Newton was no longer available. It had somehow disappeared. This made it harder for Newton to prove his innocence. In 2005 The Innocence Project decided to pick up Newtown case and went to the Bronx District Attorney for answer. They demanded help with locating the rape kit that was used in the case. Defending A Mans Honor Essay Example For Students

Defending A Mans Honor Essay Defending a Mans HonorThe main male characters in Shakespeares play Othello kill their wives in order to defend their own honor. In the period setting of the play, to show honor, women are expected to be subservient to their husbands. The characters Iago and Othello reflect this attitude toward their respective wives, giving them reason to feel just in killing these women. Iago kills Emilia because she dishonors him by revealing his manipulation of Othello and Cassio. Othello strangles Desdemona because of imagined infidelity, which makes him look like a fool. Both men have different ideas of honor, perceive their own honorable status differently, have different relationships with their wives, and different feelings of remorse. Ultimately they both kill their wives to defend their own honor. Proud, noble, and brave warrior Othello is well respected and his military skills and adventures are widely known. He is charismatic, charming, self-reliant and well traveled. These personality t raits made Desdemona fall in love with him, and by these, he measures his honorability. His measures his self-worth by the way he is perceived by others. That is the main reason why he perceives Desdemonas alleged infidelity as ruining his honor. It makes him look like a fool and he feels that he has been taken advantage of because he is unwise and unfamiliar with the devious sexual practices of Venice women. Othello is also very trusting. Of course, the question is why he believes Iago and doubts his wife. He believes honest Iago without question because Iago had served in the army with him and is generally regarded by all to be an honest man. The feelings of being an outsider and insecure in his social status are Othellos character flaws and Iago to takes advantage of these Achilles heals. For Iago, deception, manipulating, and killing are second nature. It doesnt occur to him that he will be caught and he doesnt have any conscience about what he has done. These characteristics show that Iago is self-absorbed and out for himself. He is also greedy and jealous and plots to make everyone around him unhappy, while seeking position and honor. High position and honor starts his hatred of Othello. Iago sees Othello as being beneath him because of his race, but having all the glory and honor that he covets. The final straw, Cassio being made lieutenant over him, makes him take action and plot his revenge. This blow to his pride and honor is his motivation to engage Othello into a jealous and angry rage, and brings Othello down to his level. Othello and Desdemona love each other, but for different reasons. In his insecurity about being an outsider, marrying Desdemona gives him a way to be included among the nobles of Venice. She gives him status and the honor he wants. Othello sees Desdemona giving up everything to be with him. Desdemona defends her marriage to her father and the other nobles by saying I saw Othellos visage in his mind / And to his honors and his valiant parts, / Did I my soul and fortunes consecrate. His honorable and noble nature was one of the reasons she fell in love with him in the first place. Even on her deathbed, she covers for him when asked who did this to her saying, NobodyI myself. Farewell. / Commend me to my kind lord. O, farewell! Not much is written about Iago and Emilias marriage other than she was very much bound by duty. When she steals the handkerchief for him she asks, What will you do witht, that you have been so earnest to have me filch it? He replies Why, what is that to you? He doesnt confide in her as Macbeth did Lady Macbeth. They did not work as a partnership, the focus was on Iago and his ambitions. She tries to stand up to him, If it be not for some purpose of import, / Give me again. And he just tells her to leave, dismissing her. He doesnt show any love or appreciation for her throughout the play, but she remains constant in her wifely duty. Othello ultimately kills Desdemona because he loses his control of his passions. He normally possesses much self-control. It is easier for him to believe she would betray him because she easily betrayed her father. His trust in Iagos honorable character leads him to doubt his feelings for his wife and introduces a new emotion to Othellojealousy. Iago plays on Othellos new role as a husband because Othello and Desdemona were only married a short period of time and havent been able to build the kind of trust that comes from a long relationship. Since Othello is so self reliant, it is hard for him to automatically put that trust in someone else. Her imagined infidelity mocks his honor and his insecurity making him think that he is such an outsider that he doesnt even know that women in Venice always carry on affairs. Because of his insecurity, it was easier for him to think that she was making a fool of him rather than giving her the benefit of the doubt. Iago kills Emilia to cover up his own evil deeds. Even after Iago tells her to hold her tongue, Emilia decides to tell the truth rather than let the nobles think that Desdemona was capable of infidelity. She tells how Iago has manipulated her and Othello. Iago kills her after she reveals his deception and he is unable to cover for himself. Emilia admits that she gave her husband the handkerchief, Iagos only tangible proof of Desdemonas infidelity, because he begged her to steal it. Emilia has always been a good wife by being dutiful and honoring her husband. As she tells the story about what happened, Iago says Zounds, hold your peace! / Be wise, and get you home. She defends Desdemonas honor and yells at Othello, Murdrous coxcomb! What should such a fool do with so good a wife? The honorable Iago shows cowardice and flees after killing his own wife in front of the nobles. Even in the moment he is going to kill her, Othello shows his love for Desdemona by kissing her and saying, Be thus when thou art dead and I will kill thee, and love the after. / One more (kiss) and thats the last! / So sweet was neer so fatal, I must weep, / but they are cruel tears. / This sorrows heavenly; It strikes where it doth love. He has loved her deeply all the way to her last breath, but rather than swallow his pride and live with her supposed infidelity, he kills his true love. While killing Desdemona, he feels it is his right to kill her because she has done such a huge injustice to him. I n his remorse after killing Desdemona, he realizes how his pride and honor has done and how he has been manipulated by his trust in the honest IagoIago feels no remorse because his desires come comes above all other people. While he also feels it is his right to kill his wife, he feels he is only protecting himself because she will not do what she is told. By honor, he means that Emilia must do all things required by him, right or wrong. His honor is so important that he will get it and defend it by any means, as shown in his devious dealings throughout the play. These women would have done anything asked of them, especially when it comes to their husbands honor. They loved them, though differently, and would not have done anything to dishonor their husbands or themselves. In the end, they defended their husbands honor with their own lives. For Iago and Othello, the lives of their wives meant less to them than their own honorable status. English
